Virtual Shut Up and Write | Every Tuesday

Booking requiredHDR postgraduateResearch PostgraduateSeminarsVia Zoom

Tune in for our weekly virtual sessions and get more writing done.

What is Shut Up and Write?

A group of PhD and Masters by Research students get together virtually over zoom to have a quick cuppa and chat, then spend 1.5 hours writing in 25 minute blocks with 5 minute breaks in between.

It’s amazing how productive you can be when you set aside dedicated time and hear everyone else tapping away on their keyboards.  Join in and see for yourself!

How can I prepare in advance to get more done:

  • Have a writing plan and materials prepared (articles, notes, chart) so you are able to concentrate on your writing without any interruptions.
  • Set your own target of how much writing you want to achieve during the shut up and write session.
  • Focus on drafting new material for the thesis as opposed to editing, revising, or re-hashing existing content.

Testimonial

I just wanted to say thank you for hosting (and MGA for running) the SUAW sessions. I have usually been pretty good at moving along with my writing but C-19 has knocked me out a bit. This really had me going. The first day I really had my brain moving along again. Did the planning as suggested and had a really productive time. I’m VERY happy with my writing achievement today. See you at another session. Thanks so much again.

Work for the MGA

The MGA employs Monash graduate students to fill the receptionist roles at the Clayton and Caulfield offices. When a vacancy arises we advertise the position through our email newsletter and on our website.

The Monash Graduate Association (MGA) is the representative body for all graduate research and coursework students enrolled at Monash University. So, what sets us apart from the University services? The MGA is an independent, not-for-profit association governed by graduate students, for graduate students. Our primary aim is to be there for you! If you can’t find what you are looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
